Unchallenged Workmanship: the Artists out of Cowan Pottery

2012 marks the centennial anniversary of the founding of Cowan Pottery Studios in Rocky River under R. Guy Cowan. Though the Studio thrived for a number a decades, it did not survive the Great Depression and closed in December of 1931. However, the legacy of Cowan Pottery has endured, as did its impact on the careers of Cleveland artists employed by Cowan. This exhibition examines the meaning that Cowan Pottery had for the careers of artists like Waylande Gregory, Walter Sinz, Thelma Frazier Winter, Edris Eckhardt, Viktor Schreckengost, Alexander Blazys, and Elsa Vick Shaw.
